Devonport masters top team finished at the head of the Masters 2 division after the first round despite going down 9-5 to North Shore (or Devonport B as they have become known) last night.
In another shock result Henderson lost 9-4 to the other North Shore side, gifting Devonport first round honors by one point.
First up was Dietmar 'Lethal" Londer making a gradual comeback from injury. He found the going pretty tough on a cold night and went down 3-0 to Alvin Maharaj.
The icy conditions suited Rob 'where is his mind' Drent who cut up Jim Milne 3-0 for a 5 wins two loses interclub record in the first round.
Bruce 'the ref" Stewart was back on form questioning calls, cursing the mother of his dead dog and various other spots of colorful repartee. However he failed to fire himself up totally and looked a bit rusty at times going down to Dave Wright 3-2.
Bring on the John McEnroe-like drinki trolley destruction in the second round.
Ryan "wrecking ball" Quinn had the toughest assignment against tournament hardened Damon Lord who is temporarily helping out North Shore. Damon was in great mistake-free form, with almost perfect length and touch which didn't leave Ryan much to play with and Damon cleaned up 3-0. Still a great round for Ryan winning 6 out of 7 games.
There is a break next week for some reason so our next game is against Silverdale at Remuera on 16/5/12. Let me know if you can't make it.
Maybe we could have a hit down the club next wednesday instead.
